When hiring a roofing contractor, we believe you should
consider the following:
Is the roofing contractor properly licensed? Most States today require some sort of filing
or extensive licensing to be a roofing contractor legally authorized to work in
the State.
Does the Roofing contractor have active Workers Compensation
Insurance? This type of insurance
protects you and your home if a laborer should become injured while performing
the roof work.
Does the Roofer carrier liability Insurance? This type of insurance ensures if something
is damaged there is insurance in place to pay to repair or replace it. Especially consider what if your entire home
should be damaged.
Asking the roofer he they plan to remove the existing roof
is important because most roof manufactures void all warranties if you install
a new roof over an existing. There are
many technical reasons why this is a terrible practice. I know some roofers often say it is okay to
put a single roof over but this is far from true. One issue alone is the heat that often builds
up between the layers causing buckling.
So for a year or so your roof looks okay but then it starts appear
waivey.
Asking how they plan to clean up a job site will help you
know what to expect but also plant the seed that you expect the area around
your home to be clean. This may not seem
important but given your original roofing was installed with nails this could
be a dangerous situation.
